AutoPal Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

AutoPal does not collect, sell or share any personal data. There are no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.

Your data

Everything you enter or record (vehicles, costs, receipts, photos, documents, reminders, fuel stations, trips and settings) is stored on your device. If iCloud is enabled, it is also synced through your own private iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit, where only you can access it. The developer has no access to this data.

Backups and CSV exports are files you create and store wherever you choose.

Receipt scanning

Text recognition and receipt parsing run entirely on your device using Apple’s Vision and Foundation Models frameworks. Receipt images are never uploaded.

Trips and location

If you turn on trip recording, the app uses your location and motion data to record the routes you drive and to score your driving. Routes, trips and scores are stored on your device and in your private iCloud like the rest of your data. They are never sent to the developer, an insurer or anyone else. Automatic recording can be turned off at any time in Settings, and trips can be deleted individually.

Network requests

The app contacts these services. None of the requests contains personal data beyond what’s listed.

  • Exchange rates. When an entry is in a foreign currency, the app asks Frankfurter for the European Central Bank reference rate. The request contains only the two currency codes and the date.
  • Vehicle makes and models. When you search the vehicle catalog, the app queries the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vPIC API. The request contains at most the make you selected.
  • Nearby stations. When you tap “Nearby Stations”, the app asks Apple Maps for fuel stations or chargers around your current position. The request contains that position.

These services receive your IP address as part of any internet request. Their own privacy policies apply.

Permissions

  • Camera: to photograph or scan receipts. Images stay on your device.
  • Photos: you choose individual photos to attach. The app can’t see your library.
  • Notifications: for maintenance reminders, document expiry and budgets, scheduled locally on your device.
  • Location: only when you tap “Nearby Stations” on a fill-up, to list the fuel stations or chargers around you through Apple Maps. Only the station you pick (its name and position) is saved, with that entry; your location is not stored or sent anywhere else.
  • Location (“Always”): only if you turn on trip recording, to record your drives even when the app is closed (see “Trips and location” above).
  • Motion & Fitness: to notice when you start driving, and to ignore moments when the phone itself is moved while scoring your driving.
